Some of the King transponders appear to output some radio frequency noise that interferes with the reception of the Globalstar phones. This does not happen on all units or all setups of a particular unit.
The units that seem to be more likely to have this problem are the KT76A and KT76B. We have not had any reports of this problem with the KT76C or any other transponders. There are some 76A and 76B's that do not have the problem, so we believe that it is an issue more with the installation of the transponder and the quality of shielding used.
To test to see if this is a problem with your transponder, you can turn the phone on and wait to get a satellite signal. Once you have a good signal lock, power up the transponder. If the signal drops out right away and then returns when the transponder is turned off, it will indicate that this is a problem.
If you have this problem while on the ground and you need to get weather, you can shut the transponder off for a short period of time to begin the download of WX. Then turn it back on. We have had reports that once the connection is establisthed and the download starts that turning the transponder back on doesn't stop the download. But it may be best to leave the transponder off until the download is completed. Usually less than a minute. Of course, we never recommend turning off transponder while in flight.
The only proven resolution that we have found for this is to change out the transponder with a different model.
If you have just recently gotten the WX system there are special return policies for this issue. Please check with Control Vision support for more details.
