Windows Mobile 5 added a new GPS feature, which can reserve and lock ports for GPS data. In certain cases Mobile 5 will lock these ports and even the GPS itself will be unable to transmit data to the specified port. To ensure proper GPS communications, it may be necessary to make the following changes to your Windows Mobile 5 PDA:
On your PDA:
1) Ensure you have exited out of Anywhere Map™ & Pocket Plates™ (Shutdown-Concern)
2) Tap the Start Button

3) Select the “Settings” Option

4) Click on the “System” Tab at the Bottom of the Screen

5) Double Tap the “GPS” Icon

6) Ensure the “Programs” Tab is selected

7) Ensure the “GPS program port:” is set to “(None)”

8) Click the Hardware Tab

9) Change the “GPS hardware port:” to “(None)”

10) Tap the “Access” Tab

11) Uncheck the “Manage GPS automatically (recommended)” option
Please Note: Even though this option is recommended, the system runs much better with this option unchecked.

12) Press the “ok” button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Now your GPS can transmit data to the proper port without Windows Mobile 5 interfering with access to the communication ports.
