An external antenna for the XM Weather Box can increase your signal strength considerably. There are two types of external antennas, remote and permanent mount.
Remote External Antenna: This type of antenna plugs into the XM Weather Box and is placed on the inside of the aircraft, usually around the glare shield area. The antenna’s magnetic mount makes it easy to place on any metal surface and can be easily moved from one aircraft to another. See the following link for more details: http://www.anywheremap.com/detail.aspx?ID=154
Permanent Mount External Antenna: This type of antenna is permanently attached to the outside of the aircraft. Since different aircfraft require different certified antennas, we recommend contacting your local avionics shop for antennas compatible with your particular aircraft. If your local avionics shop is unable to assist you, the following 3rd party website sells these types of antennas:

XM Only Antenna (Part Number: CI 420-1)*
XM & GPS Combined Antenna (Part Number: CI 401-420)*
